Leaking Shower Repairs – Without Removing Tiles

Why Do Showers Leak?

The most common answer is due to structural movement, this is incorrect. Yes, structural movement is associated with a leaking shower however the main cause is poor design, poor installation, a lack of attention to detail.

In the seventies the average shower would leak between twenty to twenty-five years of age.

The average shower now leaks between the eight and twelve-year mark, why?

Let’s build a shower and you can compare your shower and see what’s missing:

1. On a slab home ground level, the shower is recessed into the slab, this is carried out when the slab is poured.
2. On a second level one full flooring sheet is placed under the shower area, not two or three joins with sheets in all directions.
3. The timber framing around the shower would be hardwood not pine.
4. The size of the shower would be 1200 x 1200 square.
5. The floor waste would be no less than 100 mm round STEEL or BRASS
6. The shower bed under the floor tiles would have reinforced mesh.

The floor tiles would be mosaic or no bigger than 100mm x 100mm why? the bigger the tile the flatter the floor becomes with not enough fall towards the waste, the water pools against the wall and floor area, think back to the seventies the water went down the waste just as quick as it was falling from the rose.
8. The smaller the floor tile the more cement in between the tiles, the more strength in the floor, think about it.
9. The floor tiles would be laid first than the wall tiles, not the other way around.
10. The shower would be grouted to all joints including wall and floor.
11. A silicone seal than applied to correct areas.
12. Only than is the shower screen placed in to position and sealed.

Stop Leaking

Do you suspect you have a leaking shower? Outlined below are the steps we take to ensure your shower is fully sealed to a professional standard.

Remove shower screen.

Step2
Our ShowerFix Technician will access the shower, bath or area to be sealed. A free Shower water pressure test will be carried out to determine if there are any plumbing faults within the shower. If the shower leakage is caused by a plumbing issue ShowerFix will then make arrangements to seal the shower after a Plumber has rectified the problem. (If tiles are drummy or broken then this is a additional cost).

Step3
A full tap assessment will be carried out on standard spindle assemblies this includes ‘o’ rings, fibre washers and jumper valves.

Step4
Al I silicone to the inside of the shower screen will be removed and the frame cleaned for a
neutral cure silicone sealant.

Step5
The Technician will assess the existing floor grout for deterioration and cracks. The grout will then be topped up or sealed with an impregnating sealant. Any cracked tiles will be repaired using our product or the tile replaced at an additional cost. The standard seal normally involves re-grouting the shower wall with a smooth flexible grout, if not cement grout. If the existing wall grouting is in excellent condition the walls are not re-grouted, and the Technician will apply a penetrating sealer to the walls.

Step6
Our Technician will prepare all wall and floor junctions and vertical hob areas.

Step7
ShowerFix product will be applied to the now prepared main areas. The ShowerFix product designed for wet area sealing has the strength to withstand normal building movement. It will not crack or deteriorate. It does not weaken with strong chemical cleaning agents.

Step8
A clear sealer applied to the shower deeply penetrates the grout to waterproof and seal it. Your Shower is now waterproofed and ready for use.

Step9
Re-install shower screen.
